How Rock Solid Financials Started

Rock Solid Financials started with a simple question: why do small businesses and non-profits settle for financial leadership that would never fly in private equity? Pete and Tiffany Carlson spent their careers in environments where the standards were high, the service was hands-on, and the financial insight was genuinely useful. When they looked at what most traditional accounting firms were delivering to smaller organizations, the gap was obvious. They co-founded Rock Solid Financials to close it.

The Gap Pete Saw

Pete served as CFO of a private equity-backed operating company, where the numbers had to be right and the standards were exacting. He led financial strategy for portfolio companies through acquisitions, exits, and rapid growth. The financial leadership those companies received was exceptional. But most small businesses were getting the opposite: delayed reports, opaque financials, and generic advice from firms that saved their best attention for their biggest accounts. Pete built Rock Solid Financials to bring that caliber of financial leadership to the organizations that need it most but could never access it.

A Talent Model Built from Experience

Tiffany built her career at Grant Thornton and Valspar before stepping away from corporate finance to raise their three daughters. Her technical expertise didn’t disappear. That firsthand experience became the blueprint for Rock Solid Financials’ talent strategy. The firm deliberately recruits highly capable professionals, many of them stay-at-home moms with elite accounting backgrounds, who thrive in a flexible, remote-first environment. It’s not a staffing compromise. It’s how Rock Solid Financials attracts top-tier talent and delivers hands-on service clients can feel.

Why “Rock Solid”

The name reflects what drives everything we do. “Rock Solid” is rooted in the conviction that a strong foundation, in business and in life, is built on something that doesn’t shift. Pete and Tiffany are both University of Minnesota Carlson School graduates.

They headquartered the firm in Blaine, Minnesota, where they’re raising their family and investing in their community. Today, Rock Solid Financials serves clients nationwide from that home base, bringing the same stability and intentionality to every engagement.
